I own the timing cover below, it came with my engine when I bought it and until now never needed to look it up on minispares etc.

Now that I have looked it up there is a note in the description about an indent in the cover that will foul a duplex timing chain.

I have read that now, but its a bit late! this is what can happen. I now have a 3mm hole in my plate which is producing a nice little oil leak.

So if you didnt know before, you do now!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

i don't think you can get a different one. you just have to modify it slightly with a hammer :)

I put my duplex kit on today. Deft use of a hammer and punch did the job very nicely.

I know it's nothing new, just another post to make people aware. Everyone knows about bashing the breather to clear the fan and cutting the circular part inside to clear the duplex pulley but I don't think many people know about this. If I've saved one person from making the same mistake then I'm happy :)

Australia oi oi oi!

you need to be careful you bash it out enough as well.

I thought i did & when i put it all back together & started it up it was not enough, or in the right spot & it snapped a link.. only ran the car for a few seconds.

when i pulled the cover back off it was holding on by a fly shit on the linkage, so lucky.

new chain bit more of a hammer happy days :)

I bought a cover off eBay, the injection type that has a factory flat canister rather than a BFH type flat one......

It was welded up in that area - I was going to file an eBay dispute until I realised why.....

The mod is easy, if you have a damaged one, just knock it out then weld.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

I welded mine aswell and gave it some hammer treatment! Anybody know what the other part sticking out on the outside is for?

Some Austin-Rover diagnostic sensor that could fit in there, and used the tin plate with notches cut in it, that we generally drill the 3 rivets to remove from the back of the pulley.

Ah that makes sense! I took it off a while ago. The tin piece will be coming off the pulley when it comes off again :)
