Check the battery cable hasn't shorted to earth anywhere is always a good start, sounds like it may have done. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

As above, check the main battery cable. In the area near the front subframe it can melt against the exhaust and short out.

okay managed to get the car started and narrowed it down to the starter motor. Put jump leads onto the battery from a friends corsa and left it to charge the battery for a bit, bump started her and shes alive again, put multi meter across terminals and its charging.

Wont start again on its own - so it must be the starter motor.

Don't think it's the starter... Check the voltage of the battery with nothing connected to it. It should be around 12v dc. If its lower than 10 it's dead. If the battery is ok and it just clicks? It might be the solenoid on the starter - cheap and easy to fix. Tried this yet? ^^^ |

take the battery cable off at both ends, then any end you like put your multimeter on the end of the cable to any of the cars bodywork and it shouldn't read anything, if it comes up 0.00 or a number then you have a short between body and cable, you can't always tell visually. Actually a fully charged 12V car battery should be 12.6 V. 12.4 would be 75% charged and 11.8V dead flat.

Got it fixed, turned out that for some reason jump starting it made the car send the power to my head unit (which I stupidly wired in with a sub wire) took out the fuse and it fired up first time. My house mates have now re-wired it for me and its working fine.
