Now Ive got my head apart I am thinking of tidying the ports up a little.

Ive noticed in the inlet ports there are some rigdes in the inside bend of the port. I can't imagine it is there by accident, so is it wise to remove them?

It looks like it would push the air towards the centre of the chamber more, but at the same time I imagine this would cause a low preassure spot on the outer part of the valve and maybe restricting the flow a little? *oh well*

Any thoughts in this?

Cheers
Matt

Don't 'open up' the inlet ports anymore than they are. If anything, they need to be smaller.

I'm sure Robert would be more than happy to help with his B-9 Robot so you can probe the ports to see whats needed where, without it, you're wasting your time even trying.

A light cleaning up with emery leaving a scoured finish might see some benefit without much effort. Just remember there isn't much there to take away if you really need to, before you find nothing.

The ridges you talk of, might have a functional purpose, I wouldn't remove them before probing a virgin head on the flow bench to see what's going on in that area

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

That was my concern. I have a "scrap head" that has had porting done on one of the chambers and that part has been removed.

I might stick that on the flow bench first.

Im sure ive read somewhere that someone has removed that ridge...it would be interesting to see the results!

You can see on the top pic, on the inlet port it goes from cast finish to smooth and there is a ridge just before the valve.

It doesn;t look much on there, but it is quite a ridge when you look down the port.

I would just make it smoother at the top and leave it, i did a light porting on my 8v k nothing major just cleaning up and smoothing the bumps on the start of the inlet tract

ah now I see what you mean. In my opinion, that needs some work, but the flow bench will tell you exactly whats going on in that area, and what needs doing. It might be doing nothing at the moment if there is flow seperation before it on that short side turn.

Its just the machine finishing of the valve throat and nothing intentional

Ah,

yeap as Carl and Colin say, give it a gentle smooth, theres opertunity to remove some of the guide boss in the exhausts, but the biggest gains are probably in the seat geometry, but you need to do that with machinery...
