I need to replace both uprights due to excessive outer race wear and pitting (i.e. the upright itself) .
What's the best (read cheapest) way to get all the bits... new hubs, bearings, seals, etc?
Just individually off mini spares? Anyone vouch for the cheaper brand of bearing that they offer vs the expensive named brand (£17 vs £51 each)?

when you say excessive outer race wear, are you talking about the bearing outer race or the actual hub itself? I've rarely experienced actual hub damage.

On the other hand, plenty of damage experienced with drive flanges and CV's.

As for parts, i'd try and get hold of a pair of good used ones.

Bearing wise, I believe the general consensus is to use the more expensive ones; there has been a few topics in the past on this - would be worth a search.

Are you sure it is not just the

I've used a couple of sets of new hubs and they are a delight and a joy to work with compared to a manky old pair.

I've fitted non-gen bearings a few times and they just dont seem as nice as the proper Timken ones.
I will only fit Gen to my cars.

It's actually quite common Rob. But, the likely cause is poor assembly at some point in the past. You know the tightening procedure with the flat washer? If people don't do this, the bearings might not seat properly and then spin the races causing rapid wear of the upright, drive flange and CV shaft.

well, there you go; hub damage is more common than I thought; perhaps I do have some luck then!

I've thrown a number away due to spun outer races.

On my own cars I now use bearing fit on the outer races on fitment to try and ensure the interference fit is good to resist the outer race spinning in the bore.
