Having a few issues with the downpipe blowing from the clamp

Doesn't clamp round the whole circumference
Turbo elbow & downpipe the same diameter(internal and external)
so fit flush together

Exhaust paste used

Am I missing a trick?
Or should I just take it off have a look and refit?
Take an hour or two as space is really a premium haha!

The factory clamp is pretty crap in my humble opinion. You can buy way better clamps similiar to Mikalor clamps but with the groove. I saw them in the Demon Tweeks catalogue but they do occasionally appear on fleabay

2" downpipe? You need to grind the clamp out on the down pipe side os it grips properly.

Hi mate, if the diameter of both parts are the same then all you have to do is buy a tube of fire gum from your local car spares and smear some in each half of the bracket and all will be well, if the exhaust diameters are different then you will have to mod the bracket. Alan

well, as your issue has now been answered, all I can offer is comment on the particularly good artist impression of your turbo!

Still blowing like a well paid taiwanese masseuse

Going to buy a proper v clamp adjustable one but Is there a quick temporary fix anyone can think of?

Exhaust repair wrap maybe >.<

IIRC, even the maniflow downpipe clamp needs tweaking.
In all seriousness, the best thing is to have the pipe, elbow and clamp on the workbench and do a trial fit so you can clearly see why it is not clamping.

More than likely, the diameter that you have around the 2" downpipe is bottoming out on the 2" pipe, instead of pulling the two tapers together.

If you get it on the bench, and have an ounce of engineering common sense, then you will end up with a well-sealing downpipe. I guarantee it.

Check this link for tips on the downpipe mods needed for the metro clamp - might give insight to your issue.

Thanks guys

Yeah I've modified it abit but tbh I would agree with you and say test and modify the clamp while the turbo and downpipe
ARE OUT OF THE CAR
Absolute nightmare to do in situ
Especially as I've tried not to cut too much of the bulkhead
Took me 4 hours to get the blasted oil return pipe on haha!

I've heat wrapped it with firegum and the clamp over the top until the adjustable clamp arrives on Wednesday

When I did mine at the weekend , I jacked the pipe up to the manifold with paste between the 2 , once in place fitted the modded clamp and works a treat . Have fitted the exhaust so many times now I have got it down to a fine art . Made all the normal mistakes getting clamp wrong way around, not modding it etc etc . Good luck with it mate

The paste is ok, so long as you only put it outside of the join. Gobbing a load between the join will just create a restriction.
BTW - did you bore out your elbow? If not - just bite the bullet and do this when you have it apart. It is very restrictive as standard.
