Where's it gone?

Nobody is doing anything particularly innovative any more and none of the really really nice cars appear to be being developed further. Then to top it all of, loads of WAGs are signing up...

I need some inspiration for all the things I'm going to do to my car once it's road worthy (not fitting a turbo).

you dragged it down to the gutter fitting a gaycharger.

on a serious note, don't forget what Matty is up to for a start.

I do know where you are coming from though but I think 'we' saw some pretty major development over a relatively short period of time and now see these as mainstream

Your gaycharger envy is terrible Rob *wink*

I reckon Matty's box is bonkers. Genius, but bonkers. I doubt many people will try and copy that.

I think you're right Andy. But we've had a good few years of massive development. when we started 200bhp was unachievable. Now it's a known factor.

I know personally I have reached an end to my mini development, hence the single seater.

Right now no-one is doing much, other than Matty with his box. But there are new technologies that seem out of reach now, but will be developments in the future.

I've pretty much stopped with anything mini related due to circumstances.

I'll be back on it with a bang though as and when I get the opertunity.

I'm developing something that may be of interest along with my box, but until I finish it, I don't want to show anything as it could be an epic fail, as I won't know its capabilites until is made.

It will be useable on any other boosted a series engines as long as its got an electric fuel pump....hmmm. :)

I'm currently building on the EFi knowledge base. I have successfully got the Megasquirt3X to run on my MPi build. It drives lovely. At the moment it's running N/A but once i've got the tuning a bit better and finished fabricating my manifolds, a GT15 turbo will be going on. Now I know it's not big power but I'm hoping for a highly drivable and nippy road motor.
Things like this should make fuel injection much more approachable for more people. The MS3X has been relatively easy to setup (granted I did have Paul_S tune to work from but i'll post up mine once its more refined).

I am very keen on having a go at blow through turbo on a 16 valver through r6 bike carbs, not new or unusual as injection is always regarded as a better route but perhaps on here where the su is king carb wise. But it will be a while off too.

Im waiting on my birthday as I have one present I have asked for, a welder. As for other cars I will be doing. Non mini build thred for my vvc metro, nothing amazing but it has already started its tm diet, once diet is finished (involving little to no money just time) the mini will be hammered, minimum weight low budget but will be turbocharged

Drives
-Ford S-max Mk2 Ecoboost
-Rover 100 VVC #2 - track project

Searching is all you need on TurboMinis

as said a things moved quickly in the past few years. 160-200 bhp was thought to be near unobtainable for some time before this. for example my 1380 turbo isn't particularly innovative, but makes very good power for such low boost. built very carefully, each component carefully selected and fitted. in the past such a build might have been considered 'innovative', its now just a another carefully put together engine making some nice power. plans for the winter are a larger intercooler and more boost, again not innovative but should make for a lot of fun!!

The other thing is that the now defunct Mini Showdown was a driver for development. With this gone people have no real target.

This time of year used to be frantic with members trying to get cars together, but no more.

very true Wil.

I'm probably quite guilty that I sit back and wait for interesting threads started by others. Perhaps we all need to start thinking aloud a bit more (within reason!)

I'm sure there is some good work coming along in the background but people don't necessarily appreciate the work they are doing to post up

I'm looking forward to seeing Wil's single seater take shape.

Personally, I'm looking forward to getting my car on the road next month. I plan to develop it further, but won't be going mad with it. It needs to stay as a fast road car. 200 bananas is great, but no good on the road.

The nimbus will be next, looking forward to the new challenge. Don't see me doing another mini or a series engined car, they are just too thin on the ground and as a result expensive. If I was to do another mini it would have a modern engine. That said I fancy doing a family classic, but with modern engine and running gear.
