Hi guys finished restoring my mpi cooper around 3 years ago and has been brilliant fun to drive over the summer.

Engine is completely standard but i have fitted spax coilovers and adjustable arms which have been properly set up and makes the car great to drive.

I have now got to the stage where in at uni, and when im home have a full time job in a cad office so can afford to hunt for some more power.

few pics

My plans are to remove the engine to start.

3.44 fd
x pin diff

swiftune sw5i
minisport adjustable timing gears
vmax stage 3 head
1.5 rockers
lcb
power boost valve

i understand i can expect to hit over 80 with this.

is there anything else i should consider, my engine has covered 56,000 miles and still pulls strong and has never caused any issues.

Thanks Jayme *happy*

Also i intend to do the work myself to keep the cost down, i am fairly confident with anything mechanical.

I started tuning my mpi the same way. St3 head, 1.5 roller rockers, k+n induction, decent exhaust system, 52mm throttle body from a lotus elise modified to fit. Then overbored to 1360, sw5i cam, close ratio gearbox, 3.2 final drive, ported inlet manifold. It went really well until i had gearbox troubles, though im in the prosess of rebulding to that spec. Cheers, dan

Haha you have no idea how much id love to be posting about my TURBO build, i dont think this would be the best car to start that build *wink*

Did you ever have any fueling issues welshdan?

yea im a bit worried my box will throw the toys out of the pram so im going to give it a rebuild, do you mind me asking what broke in yours, from what i read its the bearings fail which is the problem so been looking into just replacing them. try save some money.

Dan has a point, the Mpi boxes are notorious for being shit. Worth sorting that while the engine is out.

Your limit with the Mpi is the fuelling. 80 is probably a sensible target, but don't be surprised if you don't make it.

The only way to make real power is by fitting a more tuneable injection system.
