Just a little query before i start sorting out my machining to be done on my engine. Is it worth it? The engine will be a N/A 16v with the bimma head, but no idea on the power i am looking at, but the engine may get supercharged later on if i have the time/inclination! *wink*

Cheers

I haven't bothered on my engine, as I won't be revving it much past 6500rpm.

As yours is a 16v unit, you are going to be wanting to rev the berries off it to get the magical top end power from the 4 valves per cylinder, so in your case, it is probably worth doing.

I've done it on many cars, but not on my turbo. It doesn't leak though. There are some copper gaskets to be bought now which are supposed to eliminate this.

I'm not convinced that the big bolts are needed, but then again it's not much work...

That was my thought, at least then my options are open for the Supercharger etc. Now lookin into 4 bolt mains for it. Getting the crank done to the best possible spec on a CAM 6232. So hoping to be able to rev to 7000-7500. Probably set the limiter to 7500. The cams haven't got a huge amount above that so rather have a little bit more reliability/ more time between rebuilds.

Bolts not a problem when you work for a Race team!!! All the stuff i work with has imperial stuff on, if i am lucky we may have a few nas bolts kicking around to use in it!!

Could be tempted with the 285 k series grind, any info on price 1071s.

As for who will be first, i still have a long way to go, only a bare block with 3 studs in and the head sitting on top! Waiting for the next student loan installation/wages from work for pistons and crank wedging etc.
