Hello just wondering if people with lowered cars can post up their ride heights measured from the sill seam to the floor at the front and back, i notice that the mighty minis have to run between 220mm and 250mm at the front and between 240mm and 270mm at the rear, is this a good figure to aim for? Oh my car is on 10's btw, cheers, gav

gav is the car for road or track use ? i lowered the shit outa my last one (on tens) and i used to get stuck on speed bumps !!! i know you will have considered it anyho but put slightly longer "RACE" bump stops on if ure lowering ure car or u will lose wheel arches / spats like a lepper loses his fingers !!!

i had 2 finger gap between wheel and archeway thats index finger and fore finger *wink*

I'm thinking of running 10" all round (254mm) to start with and then drop it if nothing is catching at that.

I am running 13" though and have uprated bump stops at the front and cut out the front and rear arches. I've made sure the tyre will hit steel before the GRP arches.

There isn't much room between the bumpstop and the top arm just now.

Racers run nearly on the bump stops, but on smooth tarmac this isn't an issue, on the road it is a different matter.

Also unless you have lowered shocks you will need to fit the lowered top mounts at the front. You may also need extend track rod ends *smiley*

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

I measured my daily driver (mini 30) a minute ago and it was 8.5 inches at the front! no wonder the wheel arch broke, the turbo will be used on the road, oh and brocky it should always be a little higher at the back roughly 3/4".

feebs how the hell did you get away with that??? I'd have thought a shout blade of grass would result in tyre to arch contact!!!!!!!

Also to my eyes it looks terrible (each to their own...)

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

For the minium in torque steer etc try to ge the driveshafts level and the best balance can be had with the rear sitting about 10% of the resultant height higher than the front.

Just my 2ps worth

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

i havent got a clue what the height was, but back in the day when i ran hi los on the back, the lowest i could get away with was 14mm of thread showing on a genuine hi lo

and on the front i have those fake hilow things, that i run wound down to the minimum (and ride around on the bump stops), should i admit that?

iv got hilos from huddersfield, and i have 8mm of thread on the front and 25mm on the rear.
not sure what it is from the sill though ill measure it tomorow.
in my opinion i could do with it being a bit lower at the front, but if i do ill get the uprated bumb stops!

cheers

Hi,
Feebs .. There's no way you could run that low where I live, there's that many bomb holes in the road you'd have no arches by the end of the street!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Feelble, were the rear arches tubbed on that red Mini???

I run about 247mm on the front and 260 on the rear. I am looking at going a smidgen lower, but not untill I tub the rear arches. The rear wheels bottom on these modern UK roads. Though its not so low that i have hit any speed bump yet since i replaced the exhaust link pipe and cat with a straight section of 2" pipe. The exhaust is well tucked up.

Mine is 215 at the front and 245 on the rear. 12" wheels and no tubbing. No problems running on the road.

I have had it 20mm lower at the back but it handled rubbish.

Feebs, that can't be right, that WOULD rub unless you drive like granny!. I suspect that the slope it is parked on is making it look lower and I assume that the other side is higher.

You also need some rear camber brackets to knock off that toe in!

Or is that the wheel arch?

I have no idea then! no its not sat on bumpy ground it really was that low! 2 fingers fitted between the metal of the body and the tyre, maybe my plastic arches were mounted lower then they were supposed to be!

Is it matty on here with the white mini? His ride height is really low too

and yes it was a stiff ride and couldnt take passengers i had to raise it to! Also it does look daft because the front couldnt be as low as the rear or it would catch when turning

No rear arches are standard, they only scrub slightly when its loaded up with camping gear!

Front arches are cut slightly, probably didn't need it, but better to be safe than sorry and they where getting slightly rusty so I chopped it out. Lol
