You need to do some research.

All these answers have been covered many many times before.

A couple of other things required if you want to make a decent job of it.

Patience
Logical thinking
Determination
A sense of humour for when the mechanicals join the comedy club!

It's not as difficult as some would have people believe but it is easy to make a complete balls up of it!!!

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Erm, when it says you must enlarge the outlet on the fuel tank....how does one go about such a thing?! Bigger fuel hose is simple...but do u have to enlarge the metal nipple thing on the tank? Also, for the return feed, do u simply stick a fuel hose on the breather pipe of the tank? Or is that still required for the tank to breath? If so, how do you modify the tank to take a return hose? (drill hole n weld a nipply bit on it?!)

Cheers, Ben

(sorry for the 20questions...but i'm new to turbo's and have just bought one....fairly scary!) *tongue*

Right then

The answers are;

yes, weld a larger outlet pipe in place of the original on the tank.

weld a new inlet pipe into the tank for the return

keep the breather but fit with a one-way valve ... should of had one from the factory!

There is another way, and it makes a lot of sense to my mind ...... use an SPi / Mpi tank!
That gives you the pump, the supply and return connections of a suitable size.

Easy as that .... make sure you get the retainign strap as it is slightly differnt to the normal 7.5 gal tank strap .... that will fit but might as well do it properly!

Regarding the MPI fuel tank... I heard the pump is internal and not man enough for a turbo. Does this mean you just used the MPI tank because it has a pre drilled return?

You heard incorrectly. The MPI tank is more than up to the job. The SPI tank has a lower rated pump that is OK up to around 1 bar boost pressure.

I think it'll do more than that Tom - I know of one guy who took the SPI tank'd turbo upto 16psi.

Quite where it'll quit is anyone's guess though....

Thanks for above info on MPi tank. Two questions... I am about to modify a 7.5 gallon tank to fit a return line, do I weld in an 8mm short piece of pipe or can it bolted and sealed. If I have to weld the tank do I need to purge the tank before welding? The tank is clean with no smell of petrol - or maybe someone can explain how to fit the return line otherwise? Thanks.

As i am new to the Turbo site i'm looking at all posts, this one got my attention, MPI tank i have just got another one to go in my Turbo conversion.
I fitted one for the Vtec conversion and had no problems with the fueling side.
and as stated before its would be man enough for the turbo. It would save messing about with pipes in and out of a standard tank.

Hi,
A few on here are running the MPi tank with no problems.
Good use of the search button *wink*

Just been having a browse over the http://www.turbo-mini.com site and have made a list of what else i need to get.
Im pretty new to the turbo scene and am planning on building a (former spi) 1275 T3 engine.
I have the turbo and plumbing (inc. Fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump etc etc) but im curious on:

-Which oil pump do I need? (will a standard 1275 slot type one do?)
-Do I use an MG metro cam? (considering the lower lift it will need)
-Is the oil transfer pipe on the turbo itself needed/ is there an alternative)
-Any advice on which pistons, dump valve [if needed?] and valves i will need?
-Any other advice I need??

Thanks *happy*

These questions can be found scattered on the site but to save some time:

slot oil pump is fine
MG metro cam is considered by many a good choice, but most standard (non-aggressive) cams will be fine
oil transfer pipe? you mean feed? yes needed.
pistons, dump valve, valves all depend on what you're using the car for and what sort of power you want to produce

Use the search and you'll find lots of discussions about what power figures and styles have been built. All depends what you want from the car. Don't just buy expensive bits for the sake of naming parts on the car
