A few americans do this sort of thing, but I haven't seen it done on a mini. Why would you want to?

I remeber seeing some pictures on here a few years ago, might have been under the back of a 205. Probably worth having a search.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

As the gent point out above,

There will be more lag on that set up then there is around my water tank, sorry to deflate your project but its a dead fish,

please forget this idea if performance is your quest

I think there are good engineering reasons for such a turbo placement. These are:

1) Gets around US regs that don't allow mods certain things
2) You have no room to fit it under the bonnet next to the engine.

Just to do it for the sake of it seems like a lot of hard work for no benefit.

Made good sense at the time mind you, but as above, never had any issues, was a lot of work, you loose your boot space, well I did and you don't get the full benefit and point of using a turbo in the first place.

Now going back to front mounted turbo 998. Good luck if you decide the boot mounted quest.

Is lag really going to be that much diffrent?

A 180hp 1380 has got to be pulling close on 90 litres per second at 4000rpm.

A 2 meter run of 2 inch tube has a volume of about a litre.

Yes, it is losing energy as heat all the way to the turbo. That is why manifolds glow red, and tailpipes don't.

True. However, how much energy really comes from heat.

Its certainly not a question I can answer. I havnt a clue!

Only way to see how it performs is to do back to back testing.

But doubt anyone would want too.

An american company started doing them for new model corvettes and such because it's illegal to modify the exhaust system before the catalytic convertor in certain states.

That's pretty much the only reason to do it.

This thread does remind me of some photos of badly modified cars that were doeing the rounds a few years back, one image was of the turbo(s) under the back seat
